Tell us about your classroom:
I’m a first-year special education teacher at East Kentwood Freshman Center, where I’ll be teaching 9th-12th grade students in the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program. I’m starting a brand-new classroom and need sensory tools, visual supports, and hands-on learning materials to help my students succeed. Clearing my classroom wish list would help me create a safe and supportive environment where every student can learn, grow, and become more independent. Thank you for supporting my students!

Hello! I am Ms. Foster and I will be having 23 first graders join me in just a few weeks! This is my second year teaching and supporting a group of students through various social emotional needs. If I had to choose a few words to explain my classroom I would choose whimsical, nurturing, and safe. My goal for this year is to work hard in creating a space where each student feels important and heard, a place where they know they will be advocated for, and a place where learning can happen comfortably. I was hired 24 hours before the first day of school last year, and didn’t have much time to create a place where first graders wanted to be. Let me tell you what, they let me know it sucked. I have made many strides since then, but there is still a marathon ahead of me. I am still desperately working on filling up my cupboards with the basics such as pencils and books so that my students can enter the room with confidence they will relieve what they need. I am also working on expanding my library, because there are never enough books to go around. Nothing puts smile on my face in this difficult profession like watching some books fly off the shelf. Their laughter is so genuine and their smiles are contagious. My favorite part of the day is when I get to read out loud and create voices for some of our characters. This upcoming year is going to be a blast, and I appreciate the opportunity you are creating to provide teachers with support. Bless your hearts

Tell us about your classroom: I am an elective teacher who has written a life skills, environmental studies class and a cultural studies class . All classes are very organic in what I teach making it exciting but also in need of lots of non-traditional resources I should say.

I teach 2nd grade in Greenville! My classroom is all about building relationships and having fun! We spend our days laughing and becoming a family. I also believe in many hands on experiences to ensure deep learning. This often involves many things and items that are not funded through our school’s budget.
